ABOUT

Sarah is a sophomore at U of M studying International studies and minoring in writing and French. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Since third grade Sarah has known she wanted to become a writer. Back then she thought it meant writing stories about dragons and heroes, and although that was fun, she knew there was something more complex. In High School, she always volunteered to do the sermons on youth Sunday and got up in front of the entire congregation to speak to them about "breaking down walls" and  "casting out your nets", a desire for inclusivity and connection that she developed spending part of her life growing up in rural New Mexico (hence the Georgia O'Keefe quote). She is not one to be afraid of public speaking and cannot even keep her mouth shut for one photo.

In college, she began exploring concepts such as immigration and behavioral health, writing policy briefs and continuing with narrative journalism. But she began to discover that she did not need a reason to write only a "who". She never wanted to write for herself, but for others, and find what others' stories could say when mixed with her words. It is like the photo of the house with the stain glass bright in the windows (which she photoshopped): there's a desire to reveal the story within others, a story you may not otherwise see and hear. How will others' stories change your own?
